Pay-Per-Use
Wireless System
Wireless is all the buzz these days and
for good reason - its fast, convenient and flexible. It's an
excellent solution for home networking because it avoids the cost and
complexity of wiring up the household.
It was only a matter of time before
wireless Internet access made its way into public areas. Cafes,
hotels and airports are the early adopters, but many more locations are
seeing the benefits of offering this service to their guests and patrons.
There are a great deal of businesses
out there that could benefit from providing wireless Internet
access, but have no idea where or how to start. In cases like these,
a turnkey system can provide the most hassle-fee path to profitability.

Public
Internet Access Service Manager is an excellent foundation to build
such a system. Think of it as a pay-per-use proxy server for
allowing only authenticated users to pass through to the Internet.
Users are authenticated by a variety of methods including:
It runs as a service in Windows 2000
and can allow guests to pay for access as they go, from any TCP/IP enabled
device (including handhelds!) We have successfully deployed
systems powered by this software in hotels here in the US and in Europe
and it has proven to be a rock solid public Internet software platform.

A very nice feature of the software is
that it supports multiple Internet connections for failover and teaming
purposes. For example, you can have both cable and DSL connections
running to the server through two separate Ethernet connections. If
one service goes down, even for a minute, the system automatically
switches to the other connection with no interruption whatsoever!
Also, during peak usage times, the system will team up the connections to
provide increased bandwidth.
The software is available for free
evaluation on the site www.arrowlink.com
There are several steps to the
installation process, and the software requires both a database and
Internet Gateway module installation. Needless to say, the
configuration and testing is geared toward the advanced PC user.
By popular request, I am offering this
configuration and testing service for sale as a complete, turnkey server
package. This server package includes the following:

The starter kit contains everything
needed to turn any cable or DSL Internet Connection into a public,
pay-per-use system. To keep the costs down, the PIA-Service Manager
software and components will be left in 30 day demo mode so that you can
choose which license you wish to purchase after evaluating the
system. Licenses are available for 12 and 24 month time frames. See
the arrowlink site
for up to date pricing on the software.
I'm so convinced you will as impressed
as I was, that I will refund your entire purchase within this 30 day
window if you are not completely satisfied.
What can you do
with this starter kit?
Let me give you a sample
application. Hotel conference rooms happen to be an ideal spot for
public, pay-per-use services. Companies will often travel to a hotel
for a trade show and set up tables with a variety of displays and
information to present.
Internet access is often a necessity
for these shows, and hotels are struggling to find the best way to deliver
this service. Keep in mind that hotels are primarily in the
business of providing lodging services - Internet access on demand is a
relatively new concept to them. This is where you can help.
By offering to provide this
system to the hotel, you can accomplish the following:
-
Provide wireless Internet Access to
the conference attendees
-
Rent wireless adapters to any of
the participating companies
-
Charge per minute, per day or per
week for the access
-
Manage all the customers with one
server and one DSL connection
-
Use prepaid cards to sell time
blocks for smaller intervals
Offer the hotel a percentage of the
income, and you have a true Win-Win strategy for all participants.
This is just one sample application for
the Wireless Internet Starter Kit. Here are a few more ideas:
-
Wireless coverage of campsites or
RV parks
-
Airport waiting areas and business
centers
-
Hotel lobbies and business centers
-
Cafes and restaurants
-
Laundromats
-
Office and Apartment Buildings (Become
The ISP!)
I'm sure you can think of a lot more
uses for this system.
